“Passages Jardim Angela” competition : and the winner is…

After two years of research on this popular neighborhood of Sao Paulo, a call for proposals that lasted a month and a half, and a week intensive international workshop on site, the final jury designated the winning team of the “Passages Jardim Angela” competition. The script by Estúdio+1 features a urban dialog breaking with the homogeneity of the suburbs and highlighting the role of the inhabitants.

Composed of environmental manager Ana Luiza Gnaspini, and architects and urbanists Tiago Brito, Ana Fernandes and Luis Fernando Milan, the Estúdio+1 team devised a project for both Bambuzal and Fundão passages, based “on respect, urbanity and provocation”. It was conceived on three scales : connection with the existing network of transportation, scaling down the temporal ladder with the development of commercial activities inside the passages, and the formation of an itinerary.

Among the criteria used to evaluate the teams : the innovative caracter of the proposal, The potential for creating social value of intervention in this neighborhood, the feasibility and replicability of the project, the integration of social, cultural, geomorphic and environemental characteristics of each passage, and the the integration of the local agents as providers and as a workforce.
