The rolling bridge has the particularity to wind itself to conciliate inland navigation on the Paddington basin and the access to Marks & Spencer. The purpose was to make the movement, its extraordinary aspect.
A bridge which opens slowly and smoothly until it turns a conventional straight bridge, a circular sculpture which is on the bank of the canal. The structure is opened with a series of hydraulic jacks integrated into the balustrade. As it is wound, each of the eight segments simultaneously lifts, causing it to roll until the two ends touch each other and form a circle.
The Rolling Bridge has won several awards including a structural steel prices and an award for emerging architecture.
