Highway bridge, Limburg, Germany, 2014

Architect: Jacqeline Schmidt; Project manager: Albert Egenolf

The bridge of the A3 highway, stepping over the Lahn valley at 57 meter height, next to the city of Limburg in Germany was going to be destroyed. Finally an outstanding project may save it.
This ” Bridge of the Future “, drawn by the German architect Jacqeline Schmidt, provides the construction of four towers attached to the pillars, for offices, shops, hotels and housing on a surface of 7 000 square meters for a total surface of 28 000 square meters.
Elevators located along the pillars will connect to the walk on the bridge, with a view on the cathedral.
The project’s manager, Albert Egenolf, wants this inhabited bridge to become the testimony of the German architectural and engineering knowledge.
The local authorities seem favourable to this idea which would allow them to save the 10 million euros necessary for the bridge’s destruction.
