Footbridge to Mont Saint Michel, France, 2014

Architect: Dietmar Feichtinger

The realization of an elegant pedestrian bridge extending the existing dam will allow the Mont St-Michel in Normandy to become again an island. The existing dam-road which, since 1879, was an obstacle to water movements, will be demolished to make way for a infrastructure designed to be as unobtrusive as possible in the landscape. The architect Dietmar Feichtinger said: “I did not want to disturb the spirit of the place. The visitor’s gaze must continue to lose itself. His walk must a place for a feeling of immersion. When you are on the bridge, we walk almost on the water. We’re going to the sea, the gaze embraces it and flares”.
